5 Tips For Living Your Life And Keep The Grim Reaper Away!

How To Put the Spark Back Into Your Life

“You’re the only one who can make a difference. Whatever your dream is, go for it.”- Magic Johnson

I’ve always been a dreamer, but more than that I have been a doer. When I’ve been striving for a dream, I have felt alive! I have felt that I was going somewhere and accomplishing things. I was striving, moving forward, every day getting closer to my dreams. I felt that I was doing something with my life- not wasting it!

Then, I retired from work. One day, when it would have been time for me to go to work, I sat at home alone watching TV in the middle of the afternoon. I suddenly got a sick feeling in my stomach. I thought, “Is this it? “Is this all I am supposed to do for the rest of my life?” “Am I done? “What do I do now?”

I realized that I was no longer a dreamer. If I didn’t change what I was doing and start dreaming again, then I was only dying. The rest of my life would consist of waiting for death to come and claim me. I felt as though the Grim Reaper would come and tap me on the shoulder at any time to tell me it was time to go. That was an ugly feeling!

So, I started dreaming again. I had to do some deep introspection to determine where I wanted to go with the rest of my life.

It pays to plan your future. That’s where you’re going to live the rest of your life!”- Author Unknown

There are still things that I needed to do in the fourth quarter of my life. I’ve set new goals and I’m striving again! It got my motor started again. I feel alive!

Are you still dreaming or are you dying?

You may be 21 or 71, but if you are not dreaming, then you’re dying! It doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor, time is the only thing that money can’t buy. Once it is gone, it’s gone!

Are you making the most of your time, or are you wasting it?

Many people don’t dream. Rather as Thoreau said, “They choose to live lives of quiet desperation.” Are you one of these people? I implore you to DREAM BIG and don’t let anyone steal your dreams! Be Alive!

5 things you can do to make sure you are living life to the fullest:

1- Do a deep introspection. On a piece of paper do some quick brainstorming and write down some things that you want to do in your life. Don’t judge as to whether you can afford it or not your brain will help you find a way. You may want to ask, “What do I need to do to live my best life?”

2- Find your purpose. Do you want to help people? Do you want to go places? What will light the fire that will compel you to get up in the morning? Dr. Victor Frankl, the famous psychiatrist who survived the Holocaust, observed something very interesting during his time in the death camps. He noticed that men were able to survive the inhumanity of starvation and torture when they had a purpose for their existence.

Purpose is the engine that powers our lives. Find it and energize it with passion!

3- Set some goals. These will give you something to strive towards. Written goals that are clearly defined, are the tools that make purpose achievable. Goals are what will make your dreams come true.  They have to be clear and specific in order to program your subconscious mind for achievement.

4- Take some risks. Get out of your comfort zone. Try new things that you may not have dared to do before. I just watched a video of an old man jump off of a 100 foot cliff into a pool of water! I don’t necessarily mean THAT kind of risk. You may want to learn how to do Swing Trading in the stock market. You may want to try to take Argentine Tango lessons for example. Do something that raises your anxiety slightly but you know will give you pleasure in the end.

5- Expand your social network. You can’t have a fulfilling life if you don’t have other people around you. A lack of social network can lead to depression and premature death. Join the Women’s club or Rotary. Join the ballroom dance group. Spend time with family. Do something that will get you out of your house and around other people.

Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone.”- Pablo Picasso

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you better be running!”- Author Unknown
