How To Be Healthy In 5 Easy Steps

A Cardiologist Explains 5 Things You Need to Do to Be Healthy

A local news reporter was interviewing an old man who had just turned 100 years of age.  The reporter asked the old man, “Sir, is there anything that you would have done differently knowing what you know now at the age of 100?”  The old man thinks about it for a little while and says, “If I had known that I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.”

We all want to live a long life, but more than that, we want to be healthy in our young lives as well as healthy in our older lives. Most of us don’t want to be suffering from diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, COPD or other ailments that can diminish the quality of our lives.

In my blog, I share with my readers tips for becoming financially successful.  I even share information that can surely make you a millionaire if that is what you want.  You may not agree with all of my suggestions but I’m sure there is one thing that you will agree with.  That is. . .”You can be the richest man or woman on earth, but if you don’t have health, you have nothing!”

Interestingly, it’s not that difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  Cardiologist, Dr. Joel Kahn, breaks it down into 5 basic steps:

  1. Eat a healthy diet.  Eat lots of greens and vegetables and reduce your red meat intake to about once per week. More importantly, stay away from the greasy “fast food” you’ll find at the convenience restaurants.  Also, eat in moderation.  Recent research indicates that you should leave the table slightly hungry, not overstuffed.
  2. Make fitness a priority.  The current research indicates that 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week will keep you healthy.  Moderate exercise is defined as walking fast enough that it is difficult to walk and carry on a conversation.
  3. Get enough sleep.  Americans tend to be chronically deprived of sleep due to stress and the distractions of our technology.  6-8 hours of sleep is the minimum required to maintain our health.
  4. Get supplements.  Even with a healthy diet, you want to make sure that you have all the nutrients your body needs to combat free radicals.  Dr. Kahn recommends:  Vitamin D3, Probiotics, Resveratol (Wine), and Omega 3 fatty acids.
  5. Don’t smoke.  After all the research that directly links smoking with a multitude of illnesses, I’m always amazed to see intelligent adults still smoking.  Smoking significantly shortens your life.  It also reduces the quality of your life. If you smoke-STOP!  If you don’t smoke- don’t start!

Remember, what good is it to have all the money in the world if you can’t enjoy it?  You can’t enjoy it because you can’t get out of bed, or you can’t walk, or you can’t breathe.  Your health is vital to the quality of your life, so take care of it!
