12 Essential Fundamentals That You Must Master To Succeed In Network Marketing

Shares

I had to spend countless hours above and beyond the basic time to try and perfect the fundamentals.”- Julius Erving

“Get the fundamentals down and the level of everything you do will rise.” Michael Jordan

What are the essential fundamentals that must be mastered in order to succeed in network marketing? Let’s start with a basketball story.  You may not relate to sports, but I think you’ll get the connection between basketball greats and becoming great in network marketing.

I love sports, especially basketball! More than anything, I love to watch superstars like Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors. He is one masterful player! His dribbling skills are amazing, and he can cut through the defense like a hot knife going through butter!

His shooting skills are superb! He’s got a quick release that is smooth and unstoppable! He can have one or two defenders on him and with his dribbling skills he leaves them in the dust, pulls back and shoots hitting nothing but net. Amazing! That’s why he has earned several MVP awards.

What makes him such a great basketball player? . . . He has mastered the fundamentals of the game. And, I don’t just mean the “mechanical” fundamentals. He has also mastered the internal “mental” fundamentals.

Stephen has practiced his dribbling and shooting skills for thousands of hours. These are the “mechanical” fundamentals. However, he has also mastered the “mental” fundamentals such as focus, self-discipline, passion, emotions, persistence, perseverance, and most of all hard work.

That’s the way it is with network marketing or any other important endeavor which you may choose to undertake. There are some mechanical skills that need to be mastered, but there are also mental skills that need to be mastered in order to be successful at that endeavor.

In network marketing you will need to master the skills of cold-calling, inviting, closing, etc. But, if you don’t have passion for what you are doing, if you can’t focus or don’t have self-discipline, I will probably bet that you are not going to succeed!

You must also have knowledge of cutting-edge online recruiting strategies for building your business quickly and efficiently. You can get this information by going to my 10-Day Online Recruiting Bootcamp.

So, what are the essential fundamentals for succeeding in network marketing?

I will present them to you in question form so that you can use this as a checklist to gauge yourself. The more fundamentals that you master, the greater the likelihood that you will succeed. Every fundamental that you DO NOT master diminishes your chances of success by at least 10%.

Please understand that these fundamentals are universal. They have been distilled from the great thinkers in personal success from Confucius to Tony Robbins, Jim Rohn, Brian Tracy, and others.

They are the fundamentals that have been determined to be essential for success for thousands of years. Master these fundamentals and you are assured to succeed in network marketing or anything else that you want to accomplish. . .

So here you go. . .

1- Do You Know Exactly What You Want?

“The #1 reason people don’t get what they want. . . They don’t know what they want.”- T. Harv Eker

For example, “I want to be able to quit my job by the end of the year.” “I want to live in a 5,000 square foot home, with a pool, jacuzzi, and wet bar.” “I want to drive a brand new silver Corvette with light tan interior.” “I want to create a business that nets me $10,000 per month.”

You have to be very specific, and very clear in your mind as to what you want, or where you want to go. Someone said, “If you don’t know where you want to go, then any road will do.”

Successful people are those who visualize in advance the kind of success they want to enjoy.”- Brian Tracy

2- Have You Written Your SMART Goals?

People with goals succeed because they know where they’re going.”- Earl Nightingale

You must have written goals with the above features. They cannot be general goals such as “I want to lose weight.” Rather it must be written as “By my class reunion date (6/15/18), I will have lost 10 pounds and be able to fit into a size 6 dress.”

Instead of “I want to make more money.” The goal should be written “By August of 2018, I will have achieved the Bronze pin level and will be making $5,000 in monthly commissions.”

3- Have You Created a Blueprint, Roadmap, or Plan?

A goal without a plan is just a wish.”- Zig Ziglar

Just as you would if you were going to construct a building, you must first design a blueprint or a plan for how you will achieve your goals. All successful architects design plans.

The best way to design a plan is to do reverse goal setting. That is, work backwards and designate where you need to be by a certain time.

For example, if I want to achieve the Bronze pin level by August, I know that I must be selling at least $10,000 in sales volume. That means that I have to create sales volume of $1250 per month. If each customer buys an average of $125 per month, then I know that I must find at least 10 customers per month. If I know that my closing rate is 20%, then I must promote my products to 50 people per month.

If you choose to build your business online, my 10-Day Online Recruiting Bootcamp provides an easy to follow plan for your business.

4- Do You Have The Right Thinking/Belief/Attitude/Values?

Whatever you think, that you will be. If you think yourself weak, weak you will be; if you think yourself strong; strong you will be.”- Swami Vivekananda

In order to succeed we must first believe we can.”-Unknown

In order to succeed, you must have the right mindset. That’s right! One of the most important fundamentals is to make sure that what’s going on between your ears is conducive to yielding success.

Often times we don’t succeed because our brain plays tricks on us. It tells us that we don’t have what it takes to succeed or makes up some other stupid excuse!

Do you really believe that you can succeed? If you don’t believe, then you’re already sunk aren’t you?

Do you have a good attitude or does your attitude stink? Would you join YOU in your business?

What are your values? Are they “winner” values or “loser” values? Are they positive or negative?

These are questions you must ask yourself. If you are weak in any of these areas, then you must find a way to adjust them so that your thinking will propel you to success.

Do you believe in network marketing? Do you believe in yourself?

5- Have You Released Your Brakes?

You will never win the race with an extra 25 pound weight belt strapped to you!”- David Figueroa

Have you ever driven your automobile with the brakes on?

It’s not a very efficient way to drive is it? It slows you down, wastes gas, and makes it almost impossible to climb a hill. But, that’s the way many people try to run their lives and their businesses.

You’ve invested in your network marketing business. You know your products and all their benefits. You know how to use your marketing system, and you’re highly motivated.

However, you can’t seem to get going! “It will be better to call TOMORROW.” “I haven’t organized my files yet.” “I really need to study the company manual.” “I need to practice my presentation one more time.”

EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES! PROCRASTINATION!

What’s holding you back? Most likely, it’s negative emotions. Perhaps it’s the fear of failure, or even the fear of success.

In order to achieve your potential, you must release your brakes! You must change your negative attitude patterns!

There may be a past experience that caused you some negative emotion related to failure or success. You must explore within yourself to bring that experience and those emotions to the surface so that you can deal with them and finally flush them away.

Once you do this, you will release your brakes so that you can finally move forward!

Something almost magical happens when people break through the obstacles that hold them back and discover what it truly inside them.”- Brian Biro

6- Do You Have Passion?

Winners, I am convinced, imagine their dreams first. They want it with all their heart and expect it to come true. There is, I believe, no other way to live.”- Joe Montana

Passion is like fuel in a car. If you don’t have enough of it, you’ll get no where fast!

I’m sure you’ve heard of Tom Cruise, the movie star? He came from a poor family. His father was abusive and had a hard time keeping a job so the family moved frequently. Tom changed schools 14 times in 15 years.

Then, to top it off, Tom was dyslexic and had difficulty reading so he did poorly in school. At the age of 18, he enrolled in drama school because his dream was to become a movie star.

He moved to Los Angeles and began to audition, but he was constantly rejected because he was “not good-looking enough, and could not read well.

He pressed on for only one reason. . . He had PASSION! By now we know what his outcome was don’t we?

7- Are You Taking Action?

Action is the most important key to any success.”- Tony Robbins

Many people talk about getting started. They’ll say “I’m going to do this or I’m going to do that.” They talk a mean game, but never seem to be able to take the first step toward actually doing what they say they’re going to do!

The key to success is finally taking your foot off the brake and pressing on the accelerator to move forward toward your goal. Another way to say it is, “You can’t get to second base with your foot still on first.”

Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit.”- Conrad Hilton

8- Do You Have Focus?

Always remember, your focus determines your reality.”- George Lucas

Often times, especially in today’s world where we have an abundance of information at our fingertips, people become afflicted with “shiny object syndrome.”

People get distracted easily. They will start on one thing, then they will see something else that seems more interesting, then they move on to that before they finish the first endeavor.

This often results in a lack of accomplishment in anything!

If you want to succeed in network marketing, you have to stay with one company for the long haul. Choose your company well!  You must also have laser focus!  Don’t let all the distractions around you take you off track.

A man who chases two rabbits, catches neither.”- Confucius

9- Do You Have Self-discipline?

Self-discipline is the center of all material success.”- Will Smith

Self-discipline is the ability to do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.

Do you have the self-discipline to make those calls? . . . To drive to the coffee shop to show your prospect your opportunity? . . . To go to the training workshop or conference even though you don’t feel like it?

According to Brian Tracy, “Without self-discipline, a person with every blessing of background, education, and opportunity will seldom rise above mediocrity.”

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.”- Jim Rohn

10- Do You Have A Mentor?

Don’t take the casual approach to life. Casualness leads to casualties. Seek out the mentors that you need that will lead you to greatness in your field. If you’re not willing to learn from others, who are you willing to learn from?”- Jim Rohn

Choose a leader in your company that you feel comfortable with and take them to lunch. Ask them to mentor you to their level of greatness.

Internet and traffic guru, Vince Reed says that “not investing in a mentor is choosing to walk 10 miles in the snow for no reason.  Every great entrepreneur has a great mentor behind them.”

A mentor will get you to the top faster because they already know what it takes and what’s ahead just like a Sherpa who leads the team to the top of Mt. Everest.

11- Are You Willing To Persist or Persevere?

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”- Calvin Coolidge

Are you willing to do what it takes and not QUIT?

Many people fail in network marketing, not because the industry or the company was bad. They fail because they quit before they gave it a chance to get off the ground.

The road to success is not smooth nor flat. There will be obstacles along the way, detours, and pot holes. Booker T. Washington said, “I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.”

12- Are You Committed?

A chicken and a pig were having a discussion. The chicken said, “I am committed to giving one egg every day.” “That’s not commitment,” the pig said. “That’s just participation. Giving bacon, now that’s commitment!”- Unknown

Do you understand that in order to build a huge and profitable network marketing business it’s going to take commitment of time, money, and hard work?

There is a price to pay! Nothing worth having comes for free! You may have to give up some beer-drinking time with the guys. You may have to leave your children with a baby-sitter for a few hours.

My friend and mentor, Cari H. told her story that she had to live in the basement of her mother-in-law’s house for about a year even though her mother-in-law was a real bitch at the time! They didn’t have any money, but they made the sacrifice because they were committed to building their business.

Are you willing to pay the price?

There is only one way to succeed in anything. . . and that is to give everything. I do and I demand that my players do. Any man’s finest hour is when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle. . . victorious.- Vince Lombardi
